Accessibility statement
This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. A clock, a departure board and a drawing are only worth having if everyone can read what they say.
B.1 How the site is built
- Every page can be read without JavaScript. The clock then shows the week's hours as text, the board shows its words, the drawing shows its overview, and every link still works. The two forms need the script to check what is typed: without it, their buttons stay switched off and a note gives the phone number instead.
- A link at the top of every page skips straight to the main content.
- Whatever has keyboard focus has a clear outline: graphite on light ground, light on graphite.
- Text contrast is at least 4.5 to 1, and most text is far above it. Orange never carries text on the light paper ground, where its contrast would be too low.
- Every drawing has a text alternative, and every fact in a drawing is also in the text beside it. The drawings are never the only place a fact lives.
- Each lamp shows its state by shape as well as colour: a filled dot when it is on, an empty ring when it is off. Screen readers hear the state in words ("Open: on").
- The departure board's tiles are hidden from screen readers, and the same words are read once, in full.
- Phone numbers are links that dial the number printed.
- Form fields have visible labels and hints, and screen readers are told which fields are needed. Errors are listed above the form and explained in words next to the field.
- Pages fit a 320 pixel wide screen without scrolling sideways. On a short screen, such as a phone turned sideways or a browser zoomed to 200%, the header, the call bar and the drawing stop staying in place, so they do not cover the text.
B.2 Motion
- The clocks keep time, because the time is information. On the home page, Operators and crew, and Community, the Hold button stops the clock, and every other moving part on that page with it.
- Nothing else keeps moving on its own. The letters and tiles settle in a moment, the drawing moves only as you scroll, and the escorted car route on the drawing stops within 5 seconds.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, nothing animates: no flipping letters, no moving drawing, no route being flown. The clock still shows the time, and Hold still stops it.
- Nothing flashes.
B.3 What was checked, and how
Last checked on 4 October 2026, in these ways.
- Automated checks, run every time the site is built: one main heading on every page; a language, a title and a description on every page; the skip link first; a label on every form control; every phone link dialling the number printed beside it; no id used twice; a text alternative on every drawing; and no inline script, style or event handler.
- Automated checks of the forms' rules, run every time the tests run: each kind of mistake gets its own message, in the words the form shows.
- A review of the source code and of screenshots against WCAG 2.2 AA, at phone and desktop widths, on 4 October 2026. Contrast was worked out for every pair of text and background colours from the design's colour values.
The review found problems, and these were fixed:
- the focus outline on the Community clock's controls and on the skip link, which could not be seen;
- the drawing, the header and the call bar, which could cover the whole screen on a phone turned sideways or at high zoom;
- the call bar on a phone, which could hide the field or button in focus;
- focus on text fields and the state of the lamps in Windows High Contrast mode;
- lamps that showed their state by colour alone;
- the car route on the Arrive and depart drawing, which kept moving with no way to stop it;
- error messages that were not linked to the radio buttons they belong to, and needed fields that screen readers were not told about;
- spoken names that did not match the words on the call bar, the board and the minutes links;
- the short-notice warning, which was never shown once a request passed its checks.
B.4 Known gaps
Because the checks below have not been carried out yet, this site does not yet claim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA in full.
Not yet carried out:
- reading every page with a screen reader (NVDA on Windows, and VoiceOver or TalkBack on a phone);
- every page at 200% and 400% zoom in a browser, and on a phone turned sideways;
- an automated check of every page with axe-core;
- a pass of every page with a keyboard alone;
- every page in Windows High Contrast mode, with reduced motion turned on, and with JavaScript turned off.
Known shortfalls:
- Some labels, such as the lamps and the small capitals in tables, are set at 10.5 pixels. They pass the contrast rules but are small.
- Sizes are set in pixels, so the browser's own text size setting changes body text only. Zoom enlarges everything.
- The "On this page" links lead to each section's running head, which screen readers skip. The section's heading comes straight after it.
B.5 Report a problem
If something on this site does not work for you, or you need its information in another form, please say so: [to confirm: a real contact for the showcase, decided by the owner].
The phone numbers and example.com addresses elsewhere on this site belong to the fictional airport and reach no one. On a real airport's site, this section would give a number and an email that are answered, and the time to reply.
